The GFWC-Maysville Younger Woman's Club began on September 29, 1931. The club was sponsored by the Mason County Woman's Club and was originally known as the Maysville Junior Woman's Club. By 1941, the junior women had become a strong civic-minded group. They were involved in many phases of community improvement and were ready to break away from the Mason County Woman's Club (later the Maysville Woman's Club) to become a separate entity. That same year, the junior women joined the Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs. Because of Federation standards for club size, age limits, and other requirements, the juniors changed their name in 1949 to the Maysville Younger Woman's club (MYWC).
MYWC has a long tradition of service to the greater Maysville community. The area has come to rely on the volunteerism of the club when in need of a helping hand.

The General Federation of Women's Clubs, one of the world's largest and oldest nonpartisan, nondenominational, women's volunteer service organizations, was founded in 1890 and chartered by the 56th United States Congress in 1901.
Headquartered in a National Historic Landmark building in Washington, D.C., GFWC has a long history of philanthropy, social and political advocacy, and community leadership.
More than 100,000 members in affiliated clubs in every state and more than a dozen countries work in their own communities to support the arts, preserve natural resources, advance education, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding.
In 2006, GFWC and its members raised nearly $32 million on behalf of more than 230,000 projects, and volunteered more than 8.4 million hours.
MYWC has continued to serve and be successful due to two major factors:
1) A core group of women have stayed in the club to provide leadership and continuity and
2) A constant recruitment of new members as women have moved from the area or moved on to greater family and work commitments.
In July of 1894, women came together in Lexington, KY at the Henry Clay Estate, presently known as Ashland, in order to organize the Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs. There were 16 founder clubs and 34 charter clubs.
